The West Africa Model United Nations (WAMUN) was founded in 1992 and held its first conferences in 1993.
Our self-conception is based on the idea of raising awareness about issues of international significance and promoting the ideals of the United Nations, especially among young people, professionals and thought leaders in West African countries.
The main focus of our work is to foster cultural exchange as well as political education and international understanding.
What is WAMUN?
The West Africa Model United Nations is a dynamic United Nations simulation project based on the principles and format of a UN General Assembly debate, with a focus on the United Nations, global issues, international relations and human rights issues.
WAMUN offers enormous benefits and life skills to participating students, managers, entrepreneurs and representatives of the public sector. They learn about tolerance, dialogue and empathy while acquiring some essential practical skills such as the written preparation of arguments and the oral presentation of such arguments; negotiation skills and diplomacy, among others.
WAMUN, like other Model United Nations, involves substantial researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, as well as critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership abilities.
